A majority of our work is based in the rural landscapes, regional towns and large urban centers of the Midwest. The history, ecology, and people of these communities are the primary source of our inspiration.
We are careful and selective with quantity and scale of projects we have under contract at any given time. This approach allows us to be intently focused on our current client’s goals and deliver designs that are distilled and refined to their essential qualities, regardless of scale or budget.

We understand excellence as the result of a rigorous design process and valued input from multiple voices and hands. Active and collaborative engagement between client, architect, consultant, builder, and maker is critical to any successful project and no singular hand is seen as responsible for the whole. Similarly, the design process within our office is not a top-down formula. We work in an open studio environment where ideas can originate from anyone and all projects are open to discussion and critique. The project team is then responsible to develop, research and test those ideas in a controlled and rigorous manner. Everyone is invested in every project.
